Brian G. Lawrence, LNHA, CPA, MBA

Mr. Lawrence has over 20 years of Health Care and Life Plan Community (CCRC) experience. He began serving Fellowship Senior Living, Inc. as Chief Financial Officer in 1999 and in 2006 the title of Executive Vice President was added.  With a very well rounded understanding of the Life Plan Community and Health Care business and 10 years of progressively senior responsibility at Fellowship Senior Living Mr. Lawrence assumed the duties of President and CEO in 2009.  Mr. Lawrence is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Seton Hall University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and an Executive Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the Stern Graduate School of Business at New York University.   As President and CEO Mr. Lawrence is currently leading Fellowship Senior Living’s senior leadership team with responsibility for overall health and medical services, independent living and home community based services, operations and performance.  Mr. Lawrence actively participates with the Fellowship Senior Living Board of Directors, ensuring the execution of strategic planning and development initiatives.  His number one priority is providing a high level of care and services to seniors as well as the sound financial health of Fellowship Senior Living. He serves on the Board of Directors of LeadingAge New Jersey and is a member of the American Society on Aging, LeadingAge, Healthcare Financial Management Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.  He resides in Millburn, New Jersey with his wife, son and daughter.

Mark F. Mazzella
CFO

Mark F. Mazzella has over 25 years of experience in the health care, real estate management and development and not-for-profit communities. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and studied at Pace University. He then proceeded as an audit manager in health care and progressed into senior leadership roles at Terrance Cardinal Cooke Health Center serving as an EVP, COO, and CFO which he lead the programmatic and financial growth for this multi-faceted company. Mark then served as the CFO and COO at Highbridge Community Development Corporation, a not-for-profit real estate management and development company. Mark is a member of the American College of Health Care Age Executives, and he resides in Ramsey, NJ with his wife and two children.

Phylis Tranotti
Executive Vice President of Hospitality and Development

Phylis Tranotti joined Fellowship Senior Living (FSL) in 2007, charged with the responsibility of creating a focused Philanthropy effort for this established non-profit organization. Under her guidance we now have a Fellowship Senior Living Legacy Endowment Fund, the Fellowship Village Community Renewal Fund and the Resident Benevolent Fund with over $1,500,000 raised in the last seven years.

Ms. Tranotti is a cum laude graduate of Rutgers University with a BA in American Studies. She has continued her professional development through on-going education and by achieving her Certification as a Fundraising Executive. This places her among only 5,300 fundraisers internationally who have achieved this recognition.

Ms. Tranotti believes passionately in the mission of Fellowship Senior Living to serve seniors of all backgrounds and built her program on that foundation.  After approximately six years working at Fellowship Village, it was evident that the principles of sound fundraising – ensuring that people are happy and satisfied – was having a great positive impact on serving the needs of individual Residents in our community.  Ms. Tranotti was able to balance the responsibilities and details of fundraising with the heart needed to ensure great service, complete follow through, and individualized service that greatly benefited our community.

In 2014 she transitioned smoothly into the role of Executive Vice President of Hospitality and Development.  Ms. Tranotti is focusing on improving our service model through every level to ensure the continued growth and development of our services and programs. She works with diligence and compassion to assure that the seniors with Fellowship Senior Living are supported for the best quality of life each can lead.

Jack Ellias
Vice President of Health and Medical Services

Jack Ellias, Vice President of Health and Medical Services, has been a part of Fellowship Senior Living since 1998 and serves as the administrator of Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Medical Center, and Rehab and Wellness. Mr. Ellias has experience working in the long-term care field for over 30 years. He has extensive expertise in the continuum of senior care including experience in Sub-acute rehab, Independent, Assisted Living, Alzheimer’s care and Adult Day Care Health Services.  Jack Ellias and his team are credited in receiving a 5-star rating from Medicare.gov for FSL's nursing home, Skilled Nursing at Fellowship Village, that is in the top 2% of New Jersey facilities.  He has an extensive background in Health Care Administration and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in New Jersey and New York. Mr. Ellias holds a Masters of Business Administration in Health Care Administration from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and degrees in Economics and Social Work.

Nina Updegrove
Vice President of Marketing

Nina Updegrove has served at Fellowship Senior Living since it’s inception in 1993. She holds a degree in Fashion Sales and Marketing and has worked in retail and wholesale environments. She worked for Esprit de Corp for 12 years of which 6 years were spent as sales director. While her career had been focused in the fast pace fashion world, Nina wanted to make a career change which would enable her to use her marketing skills in an industry where she could have a more personal impact while serving others. After assisting in the care of older family members, Nina discovered her passion for working with older adults. She began at Fellowship Senior Living as a retirement counselor and then was promoted to VP of marketing prior to its opening in 1996. She and her team were responsible for opening a fully sold community. She had been instrumental in the early planning and development of the community, the expansion of the independent residences and health center in 1999, community renovations in 2010 and continues to be an integral part of the vision for the future of Fellowship Senior Living. She has consistently worked with her staff to maintain a high level of occupancy and build a strong reputation for Fellowship Senior Living in the greater community.

Ken Post
Vice President of Plant Operations

Ken Post has been with Fellowship Senior Living since its inception in 1996. He started as the maintenance technician. The first few months of operation was a challenge of day-to-day details from construction punch list items, move-in needs of dozens of new residents, setting up procedures, and orienting new staff all while attending to the maintenance needs that large facilities generate. Mr. Post’s years of experience in the carpentry and home remodeling industry served him well, so that within a year he became the Maintenance Supervisor. Then in 1999, as Vice President of Plant Operations, Ken had management oversight of the 40 employees within the maintenance, landscaping, housekeeping, laundry and transportation departments.   At this time, Mr. Post was also managing a major expansion project in the community which included adding 22 new larger independent living units and expanding the Health Care Center.  

With a BA from New York University in Education, Health, Nursing & Arts, and an Associates Degree in Biblical Studies, Ken was a natural fit for the Fellowship Senior Living Community. He continues his education and improves his skills through ongoing workshops and certifications so that he is up-to-date on regulations, best practices and procedures for our Community.

Rich Mercado
Vice President of Culinary & Catering Services

Rich began his foodservice career at the age of 18 with the United States Army. While in Army he served his country and his passion for the love of food and people. In 1982 Rich joined Compass Group and worked at many locations in NY, NJ and PA where he gained a wealth of knowledge and experience over the last +30 years.


Rich has received many accolades, awards and recognition for his dedication to the customers and clients that he has had the pleasure of working with over the years. He has earned the respect of his senior leadership for his relentless devotion to the people and service.


Rich has been blessed with a wonderful wife of 31 years, 2 children; Richard JR and Lydia. Rich and Wanda reside in Lopatcong NJ.

 

Elizabeth Fandel
Vice President of Home and Community Based Services

Liz Fandel joined Fellowship Senior Living in 2012 as the Director of Helping Hands.  In September of 2013, she was promoted to Vice President of the Fellowship Helping Hands program  and currently serves as the Vice President of Home Community Based Services. 

Liz brings with her several years of homecare experience having founded Select Eldercare, a homecare agency in 2008; It was her personal experiences with her own family members that motivated her to open her own eldercare business.  

 In her role,  Liz manages our Home Based Community Services which covers a wide range of needs allowing individuals to remain in their communities and homes.  This division was created to further our Mission to help serve the most vulnerable individuals in the community and to promote independence for seniors that need or may need supervision while remaining in the comfort of their own home. 

Home Community Based Services include Fellowship Helping Hands, which provides private duty assistance with activities of daily living to  clients both on and off-campus and  Fellowship Senior Living at Home; this  unique, affordable long-term care planning option  allows you to remain independent, in control, and in your own home for as long as possible.  Fellowship Senior Living at Home  combines the financial protection of long-term care assurance, the advocacy of a Personal Care Coordinator and the Security of a Continuing Care Retirement Community  (CCRC) - all with freedom of living in your own home! .

Liz brings with her to Fellowship Senior Living  a passion for providing our seniors both on-campus and off-campus with superior quality care.  She is a native of Chevy Chase Maryland, is married, has three children and currently resides in Mendham, NJ.
